Go Far: The Meaning

Running Farther and Pushing Limits

“Go Far” – it’s a simple, catchy motto for a running company.

But when Elizabeth and I started saying it out loud as a potential RLB slogan, the words really started to resonate.

The connection to running is obvious…run farther distances than you have before, push yourself, do something challenging and hard, sign-up for a race. You may be underestimating the magnitude of your potential. What physical goals would you set if you weren’t scared of failure?

A Deeper Meaning

On a deeper level, "Go Far" entails aiming for more substantial and challenging life goals. It’s pointing your life towards something that you really want, but seems far away.  It’s not letting the perceived distance between you and your goals stop you from trying. It’s something scary.

In this current seasonof my life, my "Go Far" journey involves stepping away from a great corporate career, placing a bet on myself and entrepruership, and re-crafting a life where I have the space and time to work on more projects with Elizabeth. It’s a dream we have always had and because of how far away it felt, we were nervous it would always remain just a dream.

Nonetheless, the fundamental spirit of "Go Far" inspires us to commit to pursuing ambitious goals anyway, regardless of the perceived obstacles and uncertainties along the way.

Parallels Between Running and Life

But just like with running a long race, how do you close the gap between where you are and a far-out dream? You start taking small steps.

  • Determine where you are

  • Determine where you want to be

  • Start taking small steps in the right direction

  • Every so often, pick your head up to realign your course

Along the way, running will help grow the same skills needed for a fulfilling life:

  • Patience

  • Resilience

  • Learning from failure

  • Consistency and dedication

  • Enjoying the journey

Where are you headed? Go far!
